Melissa, the experiment that was done in your garden was NOT wood chips vs no wood chips. (Wood chips are 1-2inch chips of branches including leaves put through a chipper) and are put “green” on the walk ways4-6 inches deep to repress weeds and refreshed as needed. 4-6 inches of finished compost is put on the beds and refreshed yearly. When I observed you put sawdust (the results of wood making projects such as that from sawmills or factories) and was put directly on your planting areas, the results you received were predictable. Can wood chips or sawdust be used on your planting beds? Yes, but they must be composted first so that the carbon is mixed in with green material and a finished compost is put on the planting bed and will feed the soil and not deplete it. I applaude that you want to continue your experiment but recommend that you do more research so you are putting chips (not sawdust) in the walkways and finished compost on your planting beds. If you want to use sawdust because it is accessible to you then put the fresh stuff in the walkways 4-6 inches deep to suppress weeds and include the fresh sawdust as the carbon in your compost efforts and only put it on the beds once it’s finished. Good luck

Btw, it’s not lard until you render it. It’s pork fat. Beef fat is suet until you render it; then it becomes tallow. Beef fat is not tallow, it is fat.

On Google it let's you double, triple, etc..I picked the one that used 12 cups of cucumbers, & 4 T. of Clearjel. Mine wouldn't thicken at all like in your video. I added another 2-Tbsp too get to your consistency. I hope this will not effect taste. Thanks for sharing! I look forward to watching more videos. ❤

I wouldn't use straw except if farmer who grew it could assure me that the wheat was not sprayed with herbicides just before harvesting. Most wheat IS sprayed. The probability of bringing a persistent plant killer into the garden is too much of a risk for me. If you have straw from an unknown source if it has Green weeds in it, it's OK.

Hi! Just curious, if you thought xylitol would work in this recipe. I know you mentioned it was safe....but I wanted to double check. Also, in the video, you stay 1c 1/8 juice and in the recipe it says 3/4 c. juice. I'm sure keeping track of the details is so hard, I'm not criticizing, just clarifying. Which is correct? Thank you so much for posting this!

I bought two peach trees online and I have to say it was the biggest waste of money in my yard. As a newbie I really didn't even know what to do with the bare Roots but the fact that you have an actual tree and I got a stick is my first hint that things weren't right. Not to mention you have a bag that is protecting your roots there was nothing on mine. UPS brought me a box with two sticks in it and some kind of goo on the roots but when I tell you there was very little I mean there was very little. It's really sad that so many nurseries out there feel comfortable ripping their customers off and then charging a 40% restocking fee. Nice tree you obviously know where to purchase them. Here in Florida I feel like everything is a scam.

I busted my ass last summer growing a ton of vegetables to can and the canning process was so ridiculously difficult to do without cooking whatever was in the jar. You had to choose one or the other. Mushy vegetables or a sealed jar. Can’t do both. I decided to give up and when the hard times come I’m just gonna hit the off switch. If I can’t even figure out canning then I’m probably not gonna make it far when thing s get tough. I guess it’s survival of the fittest and I’m not meant to stick around if canning is part of the staying alive.

    • @MelissaKNorris

Your "woodchips" looks like a chips with sawdust. Sawdust will draw nitrogen out of the soil. So your statement is a bit misleading saying "Woodchips". You should try just chips and see what results you get!!
